We were delighted to welcome Dr. Jon Cybulski from The University of Hong Kong to the McIlroy Lab! As a historical ecologist, Dr. Cybulski applies isotope analysis to uncover how ecosystems have responded to past environmental changes. His work has been instrumental in deepening our understanding of how human activity in Hong Kong has shaped coral species distribution over time. Over a lively lunch, the lab had the pleasure of discussing current projects and future research directions with Dr. Cybulski. Later, we attended his thought-provoking talk—hosted by our collaborator Dr. Christina Cheung and the CUHK Archaeological Science in Hong Kong Initiative—where he shared compelling insights on “What coral fossils and human bones reveal about past environments and societies.
